What are your favorite quotes about chess?

This is the best chess quote in my opinion:
"lichess is better, but it's free." -- Thibault Duplessis

Some people might disagree with this quote but I like it so much I put it in my lichess profile. I found it in the book "Bronstein on the King's Indian" by David Bronstein with Ken Neat.
"Winning or losing is not the main idea of chess at all. A chess game is in fact a friendly exchange of intentions, hidden in individual moves. You always have the choice either of putting into action your planned move, or of first calmly preventing the intended move of the friend with whom you are playing chess in this brief, finite moment of your life."

This is good advice:
"It is a well known phenomenon that the same amateur who can conduct the middle game quite creditably, is usually perfectly helpless in the end game. One of the principal requisites of good chess is the ability to treat both the middle and end game equally well."
-- Aron Nimzowitsch

"How can I lose to such an idiot?"
-- Aron Nimzowitsch

"The game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; several very valuable qualities of the mind are to be acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become habits ready on all occasions, for life is a kind of chess."
-- Benjamin Franklin

"There are two types of sacrifices: correct ones and mine."
-- Mikhail Tal

"If Tal sacrifices a piece, take it. If Petrosian sacrifices a piece, don't take it."
-- Mikhail Botvinnik

"Chess is war over the board. The object is to crush the opponents mind."
-- Bobby Fischer

"The turning point in my career came with the realization that Black should play to win instead of just steering for equality."
-- Bobby Fischer
"Die Schachblindheit sucht ihre Opfer ganz besonders unter den Meistern des Schachspiels, während ihr Vorkommen bei Dilettanten noch innerhalb der Breite des Normalen liegt." (Siegbert Tarrasch)

"Ihnen, Herr Lasker, habe ich nur drei Worte zu sagen: Schach und matt." (Siegbert Tarrasch)

Well, some might say that he was an asshole.

But my favorite is: "It shows I need to perfect my play of two move variations." (Michail Botwinnik)

IMHO this quote is good for a lifelong motto.

BTW, i try to imagine what Bill Gates said backstage after his famous 9 move loss vs. Magnus Carlsen.

I guess it was "Fuck!"

"The blunders are all there on the board, waiting to be made."
-- Tartakover
Modern chess is too much concerned with things like pawn structure. Forget it! Checkmate ends the game.
-Nigel Short
This quote is very funny, and I like because even though I do focus on things like pawn structure, it reminds me that checkmate wins it all.
"When I am White I win because I am White. When I am Black I win because I am Bogolyubov."
-- Bogolyubov
And the rest is just technique, which means that I have no idea how to win this endgame. - zugaddict

ZugAddict has a hug amount of wisdom form his quotes, but this one applies to me a lot lately...

I love this.
As Rousseau could not compose without his cat beside him, so I cannot play chess without my king's bishop. In its absense the game to me is lifeless and void. The vitalizing factor is missing, and I can devise no plan of attack. Siegbert Tarrasch
