Losing games when up in material

Should have traded off the queens...1!!!@#!#@ You would have gone into the end game with an understandable advantage. Black would have had no chances.

Leaving black with a queen on the board just gave him attacking chances that he shouldn't have had.
Even on move 42 you were okay. After 42....Ng1+ you should have played 43. Rxg1. Even after your opponent took the rook you would be a bishop and two pawns up and completely winning.
On move 23 Nxc7 would have forced black to give up the queen. Definitely would have been game over from there.

I guess the lesson from Blacks perspective is "never give up". I've been there though, a hard loss to take after being so dominant all game. But these are the games we learn most from and become stronger players.
Ouch!

It is easy to be so caught up in your own attack that you don't realize the opportunities your opponent has. You just assume there is nothing he can do once you are up so far in material.

As has already been noted, it it is generally a good idea to get the queens off of the board once a decisive material advantage has been achieved and there was ample opportunity for White to have done that in this game.
