About me

It is critical for a coach to not only have a strong knowledge base, but also to inspire and build confidence. I pride myself on being able to balance these elements in my teaching while at the same time create a fun, yet structured, learning experience.

Playing experience

I learned chess from my father at the age of 3 but I was something of a late boomer. However through much hard work I achieved the National Master Title in 1998, Fide Master in 2009 and Senior Master (USCF 2400+) in 2012. I am a 3 time Champion of Ohio. In July of I became the 2012 World Open co champion and Midwest Class co champion for a combined win of over $10,000 in prizes. I have great experience in the US class sections and coaching players as they move up the ranks.

Teaching methodology

Technology has opened up access to innovation in chess learning like never before. Online chess training using Skype and sharing screens is an excellent and streamlined way to receive chess knowledge. I want to emphasize the strength of this platform; if you are new to Skype have no worries I will walk you through the set up process and make it a smooth and fun learning experience.

After the lesson you will receive a PGN (portable game notation) that contains analysis, homework and suggestions for self study. If you are new to chess database usage do not be concerned. Most of my many student are first time users of PGN files and quickly catch on to using them with my guidance. Regular files will be part of the training as we create a study plan to help you achieve your chess goals.

I am a full time chess coach that works to serve my students in the most flexible and efficient manner possible. If you have special needs or concerns with pricing or schedule do not hesitate to contact me and let me know your concerns.
