Hi There,
I'm trying to learn the French and the Slav. I have a *feeling* that move choice is correlated with rating. Does anyone else have the same experience? Do you think I'm correct?
In the French:
Below 1550 white plays the advance, then between 1550 and 1850 white plays the exchange, almost exclusively, then after 1850 people start playing a wider variety.
In the Slav:
In chesstempo opening database the most common is 3. Nf3, which leaves open the possibility for white to play czech variations of the Slav.
However, here on lichess almost everyone plays (1.d4 d5, 2. c4 c6) 3. Nc3. I think players 1850 and up are more likely to play 3. Nf3 (but obviously I don't have a lot of experience here b/c not too many higher rated players want to play against a lower rated player).
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
P.S. I'm playing 3 minute blitz exclusively.
