Make it easier to challenge people online around your rating?!

In reply to #10

Yes I just realised from my perspective I tend to just look right at the top of the list. But if someone is rated say 1500, maybe they want to see 10 players around their particular rating as an additional way of looking at online players for sending direct challenges. You could use the absolute value difference of rating e.g.

someone rated 1500:

show those online rated say:
1501
1502
1503

and the other side too

1499
1498
1497
The sort order of the players list is unclear anyway. It seems to be very roughly in order of rating, but there are many exceptions!

The people around you in the list are not always close to you in rating, and not all the people that are close to you in rating appear close to you in the list either.

It seems a bit more reliably sorted right at the top end though.
And what rating would we sort users with? Remember you have not one, but six ratings.
I think the better way is just provide to the players filters. You can show the list of online players in a random way, and then give the players the opportunity to filter the list by rating (he chooses which rating he wants to filter). Also a language filter would be good, so players can challenge other players who talk the same language.

My two cents.
User selectable filters would be great. e.g. "Show only players 1600-2200 Blitz in Standard (sorted by Blitz Standard rating)".

If I had to pick just one sort order I'd say use Blitz / Standard, because that seems to be by far the most common game type.

But filters would be really useful to people that want to play less common variants. If someone wanted to play bullet 960 against opponents that are 1900ish in that, they're going to have a hard time finding matching people without filters!
