Who the heck are those guys you name user-created tournaments after? Can it be named after great past & present players instead?

Who the heck are, say: Wrenn, Lutz, Horne, Beasley, Clements, Nash...? Surely they're not a very well known chess players, at least to majority of chess lovers (are they a local chess-club heroes? lol)

It seams so much more logical to name new user-created tournaments after great players of past and present, say: Steinitz, Lasker, Capablanca, Alekhine ... Fischer, Karpov, Kasparov, Carlsen...

Any reason against such a suggestion?

I actually agree with what you're saying. It would be nice if the tournaments were named after well-known chess players.

They are chosen by a random list:

If you make up a nice list, maybe thibault will replace the current one with yours? But! There are currently 999 names in that list*... In that list, the name "Fisher" is already included from the short list you provided. I would suggest, instead of making a new list, just find some names that thibault can add to the existing list.

Unless... you want to come up with 999+ names...

* Went to github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/master/modules/tournament/src/main/package.scala#L17, copied the list, pasted it into http://www.wordcounter.net/ to figure out how many names were in that list.
Thanks for your reply, link and idea ... yes, I could in fact just do something like replacing meaningless (sur)names with ones of famous chess players.
But...before I do so, let's clarify - if I do so, is the list automaticaly saved so it can be used right away, or it's saved after your approval only?
Ok, got it, a list cannot be changed directly; so how should I pass the newly made list to you? I believe uploading it to your e-mail would be the most elegant solution - if I just post it here, it would occupy more space then desirable.
Oh no, don't send it to me. Send it to lichess.contact@gmail.com

And, you're right: it would have to be approved/changed by thibault; it isn't automatically changed.
999 names to replace, you said, ehh?
Sounds demanding; well, I made a list with 500 names of notable players (including all the notable players from the past I could think of, today's top-100 rated players, great problemists and, of course, notable ladies), and I am already kind of running out of inspiration...
I guess such list, holding "only" 500 names, could still be ok - additional names can always be added to it "post mortem", right?

In the meantime, I keep searching for some more names...
Perhaps adding the names of real notable tournaments from the past and present (Monte Carlo, Hastings, Bled, Karlsbad, Kemeri, St.Petersburg, London, Baden-Baden, Nottingham, Opatija, AVRO...) could be added here? Sounds like a valid idea, and it will help "push" the list forward...
Well, I guess I did it - 676 (notable) chess players plus 324 (notable) tournaments make 999 entries in total (all alphabetically listed in an excel .xls file).

I guess it's Thibault's move now?

File's on its way...
Well, the last post counter said "4 days ago" since my last post, so pls allow me asking: Are there any news about implementation of new (chess players and tournaments) list, using the one I made 4 days ago.

That is, if there IS any serious intention lately, to implement it at all.

I'd like to know if my work was made in vain or not, therefore thanks for making me know it in your reply post.
Hi, I passed along the list to Thibault. This is what he said:

The list is unusable, but that can be amended. First of all, it is in XLS format (it has to be in a text-based format, like CSV). Second, some lines have several different entries on them. However, if those two issues were fixed he would be ready to integrate it.

Not having seen the file, you said you also have notable tournament names. Are there any brand names in those (e.g. Tata Steel, Mtel)? If so, they will have to be removed for copyright reasons.
