This seems like a good website; would love to play chess on-line but the network bar for me is either red, or one bar almost always.

I have found the cause of the lag in the code. It is fixed now, and we should enjoy perfect reactivity from now.

Nice! Thanks

Thank you so much thibault! We really appreciate it. :D

And to all the haters, I was just bringing it to the attention of the admin in case he hadn't known about it yet. No need to get all fussy.

By the way, if you did want to upgrade servers, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would be cool with a couple of ads. You deserve it anyway.

While I really like clean sites (and prefer them)
I wouldnt mind a small amount of ads either (okay okay,
I have adblock plus, flashblock and no script lol).

Mephostophilis Mar 22, 2012 4:14 AM #16

Not to mention, I imagine thibault has a nice selection of ads we could all use XD

Like he said though, it will never contain ads. :(
... :D

hey legend, I also use all these addons! plus ghostery, which prevents any tracking, you could give it a try.

Reminder: there will never be ads on lichess.
I'm lucky enough to have a great programming job that pays well, so money is not the problem. Lichess server is great already: 8 cores, 24Go RAM.
The problem lies in the language I'm using, PHP, which does not like persistent connections lichess needs. I'm actually working hard to rewrite lichess in scala using asynchronous connection. I'm
confident it will let us scale far better.

I'll keep you updated about this rewrite. For those who like source code, it's happening there: http://github.com/ornicar/lila

Usually "there" is in reference to a location you just got done specifying, while "here" is in reference to a location you're just about to specify.

Figured I'd mention since you use "there" commonly :D

From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere.

Anyway seriously, I know you were mostly addressing legend :P, but I'd honestly be exhilarated if I knew anything about the Scala language at all. I suppose it doesn't come natural. What an
unfortunate disability, trapped in the world of low-level memory access styles of writing.

I just look at it anyway because I can make out the chess-related stuff you're committing there, just nothing purely associative with the language itself.

What is it with all the people that are like "it's a free site you have no right to complain!!!! LOL"......

What if I offered you a free massage, and at the end of it I punched you really really hard in the balls.

Would that mean you couldn't complain about the massage because it was free?

I feel like this is what this site is doing to me now. I try to play a game, and I lose because of connections troubles (I've very competitive and I hate losing)

You might as well have punched me in the balls

Lag issue is definitely not "fixed." Its as bad as it ever was.
