Dear Thibault,

many thanks for the fine piece of software that is lichess and the hours of entertainment it provided me in the past.

Unfortunately, ever since you migrated it to winsockets, it simply won't work for me on my windows 7 x64 machine OS any more. I am able to create a new game, but unable to move my pieces - the page simply refreshes and moves my piece back (a "reconnecting" message sometimes flashes briefly). This occurs on Firefox, SeaMonkey and Chrome when ran under windows. Under linux, everything runs smoothly. I am attaching screenshots and the full log from fiddler during a recent (attempted) session that show a pattern of repeating websocket handshakes, perhaps it will help you identify the issue.

Please look into it if you have some time, this issue makes the site unusable for me (i can't afford to shut windows down and boot linux every time i want play a game of chess :-( )

staafl,

The operating system by itself won't affect the protocol access, but I'm sorry you're inconvenienced. Thibault currently is away for a month for the most part but might pop in sometime if you message him.

Have you tried disabling other processes besides the current web browser for Microsoft Windows that also access the Internet, such as firewalls or any proxy redirection?

hey folks
thanks for your replies
when i said "not working on windows 7" i meant "it wasn't working *for me* on windows 7", anyway
thanks to your suggestions, the problem is resolved
i'd tried turning off my firewall to no avail... the culprit however was my web filtering app
i've been using k9 web protection for years to filter out distracting content (read: porn and adverts) on my pc and it didn't even occur to me that could be the reason when lichess broke for me in april.
anyway, thanks again and hopefully anyone else with the same issue will find this

I hate virus scanners. :)

They're like...viruses.

Got to have some sort of minimal setup though.

I'm glad you found a compromise and got things working here.
