Grand Prix points system on official tournaments

Hi all

I think there is some organising for an unofficial grand prix system but I wondered for the lichess official "Grand Prix" system - essentially a way of gathering points for a particular season across different key official events. I was thinking for example:

Daily Bullet Arena - 1st 10 places
1st - 10 Grand Prix points
2nd - 9 Grand Prix points
etc
for 10th to be 1 Grand Prix Point

Weekly Bullet Arena - weighting factor * 2 so,
1st - 20 Grand Prix points
2nd 19 points
etc

Monthly Bullet Arena - Weighting factor * 4 so
1st - 40 Grand Prix points
2nd - 39 Grand Prix points
etc

How about this idea?!
Two problems:

1. It's essentially a competition for the top 5% of players only - the rest hardly ever makes it into the top 10 of any given event.

2. It would massively favor those of the top 5% that play the most, wouldn't it?
I think the weekly and monthly events need to have a much higher weighting, but it's a wonderful concept.
Why must it bullet? Why not 3+0 blitz or somehow slower?

I think it can be for any of the featured tournaments.
I think all official tournaments should be counted. No point discriminating the variant masters :)

While at it, I think a small trinket of Grand Prix points should also be awarded for earning >10, >20, >30 etc amount of accumulated score in official tournaments. That would make for a decent tiebreaker and reward those who play more.
im for it even im ~1400, during morning tournaments its possible to get around 6th place.
But why there is no classical tournaments all day long?
For such a system to work it needs to be finite and have a champion at the end of it.

I've set up the first Grand Prix Tournament Series, comprising 16 tournaments 2-3 weeks apart. 1+0, Saturday evenings, 1 hour. The top 20 win points that go towards their eventual tally.

If you decide on a structure - when, where, how many, how long for, points etc.,

If you look at...

...you'll see there are already 93 members including a GM and an NM. We even have a website: http://salfieldben.wix.com/gpts

I invited KC, Seppo and a whole bunch of the very top players to take part... as NM Horobetz is only our 10th highest ranked player you'll see that the field at the top is very strong (top 10 averages 2360 right now).

This is probably why the maestri we see so often - Kingscrusher, Seppo et al - ignored the invitation. I think many of the top players do not really relish playing each other too much. It isn't about the ratings in our competition because the tournaments are "unrated". I wanted to make this about pride :)

I suggested this sort of competition aaages ago, but no one seemed up for organising it... so I did it myself.

KC, Seppo, Singer_Marta, RobertFontaine, Elda64, hiimgosu, thujer, keithster, Feeglood, smurf42, BellaForever, Lance5500 et al - you're welcome to join us if you think you're hard enough :D

By really including a bunch of lower rated players too, we've made it feel like a community already... and people who don't compete in 2 consecutive tournaments without letting me know may get kicked out, so it encourages an active and friendly bunch of people.

There's one tournament gone, but 15 to go before the end of April so... the ball's in your court!

Regards

Ben

PS I've got some other things planned too, including a tournament I'm calling "The Big Guns" (for over 2200s only). I've also thought about a Premier League, where people play eachother twice (once black/once white) in a sort of football-style system. It'd be great if lichess took up these sorts of ideas but and awarded trophies etc but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
PPS I didn't mean to exclude Ferrari from my challenge by the way - sorry :D
