I've had the server lag for me, and then the opponent gets an opportunity to force resign for leaving...
It's terrible. Can we switch the required delay to 1 minute or 2 minutes at least? Or have a setting in the profile to turn the ability to force-resign you off?
Perhaps force resign could be a game option like time?
Also, What do you put when the chesscaptcha allows for more than one mate?
Ideal scenario would be to have no force resign option (or at least a high timeout - like 3 minutes?) on _rated_ games and 15 seconds or so (is that the current value?) on unrated games. Lots of anonymous players just disconnect when they're losing - it would be very annoying to wait for 3 minutes after that.
I vote to extend.
Pretty much all my disconnecting is because of server maintenance. It takes me just a little over 30 seconds (or whatever the time is) to reconnect. By that time, the game's been force-resigned.
Maybe you can have different force-resign times according to time controls. Weird, but I don't know. Waiting 3 minutes mean nothing since I don't sit and stare.
Just make it like on FICS; set no-escape on if you want to play with no headaches and adjourned games. Keep it off and get all the rage-quitters and bad-connection people to play you. I'd vote to keep the disconnect time low though. I really wait having to wait a few minutes to actually win a 3-0. It completely defeats the purpose of playing quick games (i.e. having some quick chess fun).
*that should read: 'hate having to wait'
my 2 cents on force resign time setting...
Make the time as a parameter (X seconds) and that X is a fraction of the whole game time.
Better yet - make it 30 sec as the default and higher if X is higher. You can also display this in the game page, so that players are aware of it.
