I often create a game offer and go do some other stuff in another tab. Sometimes it takes a while till to accept me game offer.
But there's no indication when the game actually starts so I miss the game start, the opponent aborts the game and rinse/repeat.

I think you're mistaken. When the opponent happens to be playing white and makes the 1st move - then you get some audio indication that's something's going on, but not if he's playing black.
OK, Now I hear that "ding" sound when a game starts. Either something changed or something that was broken with my browser (Firefox 38 ,beta channel) was fixed with the lastest update.
