Hi,
Anyone used the free Android chess program called Droidfish? It's a very well made program, uses stockfish to play and analyze.
You can set the stockfish strength too as a percentage.
As I'm kind of amateur in chess, wanted to check you're opinions - especially on playing strength - as even after toning it down, it takes time to calculate moves, and I couldn't beat it yet. I've gone down till 16% of Stockfish.
Also there are very few detailed reviews or discussions on it.
What's your thought about it?
Cheers
I've used it. I play long time control games on it throughout the day (90min+30s, 45min+30s, etc). So there are often many 'adjournment sessions' in 1 game.
I play it on full strength and can hold draws (with the odd win) with some effort if I'm focused through all the playing sessions. And many of the easier draws come from playing against the Winawer system of the French with Nf3 lines.
I think the engine's evaluation function is slightly weak for positions with the Winawer structure, where the pawn configuration is (white) c2,c3,d4,e5 and (black) e6,d5,c4.
The first 2 games I played against its French Winawer, it really played without any goal- it couldn't execute the f6 strike at e5 quickly enough, losing to an eventual k-side attack.
But I think the engine learns from positions because from then on, it started playing f6, yet I still notice a clear weakening of its strength in the French Winawer Nf3 lines.
And has anyone noticed the bug where the engine after spending some time on a move (this typically occurs in long time controls), the time it spent on its move 'renews' itself and the engine starts calculating again from scratch? Or is this due to limitations on the phone's processing power?
Aside from all that, it is a great program for practicing your chess.
